Paying tributes to the martyrs of Jammu and Chenab on their 71st anniversary, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP)on Sunday said the massacre of hundreds of thousands of Muslims on November 6, 1947 was a 'holocaust'. In a statement issued, the DFP said: "On that day, under a planned conspiracy, Muslims were massacred by the communal forces and the pain of that holocaust is still felt by our hearts.” "During the time of partition, on one hand India occupied the state through military might and on other the communal forces resorted to loot and arson and spread bloodshed in every nook and corner of Jammu Kashmir, to erode its special status." It said many leaders of that time and their party maintained criminal silence over the massacre which encouraged the killers to commit further killings, loot, and arson. “The very party that supervised the killings of 2008 and 2010 had always been power hungry and that is why it continues to maintain silence over the 1947 massacre,” he said. The party expressed solidarity with the families of the massacre victims saying “we are fully conscious of the sacrifices rendered by the people of Jammu, Pir Panchal, and Chenab Valley and will never leave them alone”. “The sacrifices of the people of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Bhaderwah, Reasi, and Banihal towards the freedom struggle of Jammu Kashmir will be written in golden words,” he said. Paying tributes to martyrs, the Freedom Party said history will always remember them. “Though there are hundreds of similar massacres but 1947 martyrs assume a unique status as they were put to death under deception," he said. "The Muslims and other peace loving communities of Jammu have to follow the mission for which the 1947 martyrs sacrificed their lives. They have to foil the wicked conspiracies of the communal elements,” he added. Meanwhile, DFP spokesperson while paying glowing tributes to Shaheed Gowhar Nazir on his 2nd martyrdom anniversary said the PDP in its lust for power and to appease the BJP is hell bent on massacring our youth. “It is extremely unfortunate that despite making huge claims to probe the killing of Shaheed Gowhar Nazir, his killers are roaming free,” the spokesperson said.
